Dermaplaning is a painless skin exfoliation treatment that is similar to microdermabrasion. They both improve the look of the facial skin (microdermabrasion is however used on oily and acne prone skin). Dermaplaning is also used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on some parts of the face as well as acne and injury scars, it removes dead skin cells.
This procedure is used on people with rough skin and results in smoother textured skin. It can be done before a deep chemical peel and requires no chemicals and no downtime. Dermaplaning also eases the application of cosmetics on the skin and makes the active ingredients seep into the skin more easily.
How it is done
The procedure involves using a blade (scalpel) to scrape off the surface hair (and dead cells) on the skin. The skin is first prepped with steam to make it softer and open up the pores.
What to do after a dermaplane procedure
One very important precaution to take is to avoid sun exposure. As this is nearly impossible for some, it is important to develop a good relationship with sunscreen (SPF 50).
How often it is done
The skin cell regeneration cycle takes approximately 30 days, this is why it is advised that the procedure is done every 4-6 weeks to give the cells enough time to finish their cycle.
Duration of Procedure – 30-45 minutes
