Ascorbate (stabilized form of Vitamin C) Protects healthy cells from recurrence by protecting them from UV and environmental oxidation and inflammation.
Niacinamide is one of the two principal forms of vitamin B3 (nicotinic acid is the other). Niacinamide serves as a precursor of NADH and NADPH, which are co-enzymes facilitators of enzymatic reactions) essential for numerous metabolic pathways. In a randomized controlled study, 4% niacinamide gel has been compared to 1% clindamycin gel (a topical antibiotic) in 76 patients with moderate acne. After 8 weeks, 82% of patients treated with niacinamide and 68% of those treated with clindamycin were considered improved. This research suggested that anti-inflammatory activity of niacinamide may have contributed to its e!ect on acne. Studies also show improvement in reducing fine lines and wrinkling.
A tyrosine (amino acid) inhibitor that also can reduce UV caused inflammation. It is believed to accelerate wound healing. Kojic acid naturally derived from mushrooms.
Dissolves the intercellular cement responsible for abnormal keratinization. In acne-prone skin, this is of particular importance as the pore is clogged and filled with keratinized dead cells. Glycolic acid helps with dry and oily conditions alike. It dissolves the dry and thick layers of the skin and unclogs the pores as well as helping other nourishing products and ingredients to penetrate. The stimulation achieved by a therapeutic glycolic product also increases circulation, smoothes uneven skin, and improves the overall function of the skin. Another well-known benefit of glycolic acid is its ability to improve the appearance of surface hyperpigmentation, often seen in acne prone skin.
