An AHA that helps exfoliate and improve the texture of skin. This ingredient is beneficial for those with dark spots, discoloration, and/or dull, dehydrated skin.
An alpha hydroxy acid derived from sour milk, lactic acid has been used for centuries to relieve dry, aged skin. Lactic acid has better water intake than glycerin and studies report that lactic acid has an ability to increase the water-holding capacity of the corneum layer as well as improve the elasticity of the skin. Lactic acid is less irritating on sensitive and dry skin than some of the other AHA ingredients.
This ingredient aids in dissolving the top layer of the stratum corneum by virtue of its keratolytic nature. Salicylic acid is derived from the bark of sweet birch and the leaves of wintergreen. It is also known for its antiseptic qualities and is acceptable for use on most skin types, except those allergic to “aspirin” or extremely dry or extra sensitive skin.
